AW97 Dirk Bikkembergs Steel Strap Derbies

Dirk Bikkembergs was a member of the famous Antwerp Six, a group of graduates who finished their studies at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1981.

After starting his eponymous label in the late 1980s, he only started gaining traction during the mid 1990s for his unique utilitarian and military styled designs that often incorporated elements of sports and excercise.

This pair of derbies is honestly one of my favourite designs from the golden age of his label. With a utilitarian design displaying a steel strap that can be moved forward or backwards to tighten and loosen the feel of the shoe, it adds a sleek, brutalist look.
